Understanding Suicide Prevention: Working Aged Men

Suicide is the leading cause of death for working aged men. 3 in 4 suicides are men.
There were 6,069 suicides registered in England and Wales in 2023, which is the highest rate seen since 1999. The age-specific suicide rate was highest for males aged 45 to 49 years (25.5 deaths per 100,000). Statistics from the Office of National Statistics.
We are responding to a large number of requests from businesses and organisations who need to have the knowledge and skills to support the people they work with, either as colleagues, line managers, or in any supporting capacity.
This one-day Understanding Suicide Prevention workshop enables you to understand:
- Why male distress can be missed even by skilled professionals
- How to ask about thoughts of suicide
- How to make safety plans to keep people safe from suicide
- Why meeting emotional needs reduces suicide risk
- How to apply BS 30480 Suicide Prevention guidelines for workplaces
This course has been written by Ezra Hewing, Head of Education at Suffolk Mind. Ezra recently contributed to the new Bristish Standard BS 30480: Suicide and the Workplace launched in November 2025.
